    01:11:16 in Alma ch. 22, vs. 18: ”I will give all my sins to know thee,” these are my favorite words in the ENTIRE Book of Mormon. Such a baring of the soul, such openness.

    I think Ammon being sent to tend the flocks of the King was a punishment. You've got a crown prince refusing a political marriage, the King is like okay, lets just get rid of this weirdo in a way that "absolves" him of guilt. His astonishment makes more sense when Ammon comes back unharmed.

  • @RussellTouchstone
    @RussellTouchstone 23 часа назад

    Late to the video here, question is, God made the rules, God made the punishments, He's the one who decides if suffering is necessary or not. He is all powerful. For whatever reason he decided someone must die for his pleasure. Why? Why does God make rules that require death for mercy when he can give mercy to the rules he created without death or suffering. God deemed a human sacrifice was necessary, being all powerful, God did not need to do that. God does not need, period. This is the question I have yet to find an answer to. I understand why God did it, but that is based on the rules and principals He created, Why did God create those rules in the first place?

    I thought it interesting that the king’s first response was to offer his daughter in marriage, which would have meant a high status. When he refused, the king sent him to probable certain death. He didn’t know what to make of him.

    When King Lamoni can see that Ammon is not your normal Nephite. when he offers his daughter for wife. This was a political move by Lamoni to keep Ammon close by and within his power. That way if he was up to no good, the king would find out about it from his daughter. Ammon was wise to decline the offer. Think about Ammon as a youth, he was a son of a king. He would have been skilled to lead and be a leader in combat to defend the kingdom. Can you imagine for a minute, young Ammon and his brothers, "Dad we've been doing sword practice all morning long?". Oh he was prepared.

    I appreciate the discussion of divine restraint, but I also wonder why you didn't discuss the main reason why God allowed the women and children to be burned, so that righteous justice could come to pass, not only for those leaders who were killed in the prison, but later when all of Ammonihah was destroyed in one day.

    I think the combination of the Lockdowns in 2020 through 2021/'22 and increased chaotic darkness has created those who choose to continue in Jesus Christ, a Greater Thirst and Hunger for the Word of God! Also, reading books (for me at least) has been a struggle of many younger people. However, since many of the Rising Generations have been turning towards Audiobooks and Podcasts, I think This is why Older Generational People, such as yourself, have seen an increase to tune into platforms like yours. Thank you for your willingness to share your thoughts and testimony through this channel and through your podcast! I have felt this way all of my life. I’ve never felt that I belong. But I have a testimony of Jesus Christ. He helps me with my feelings of not belonging because I belong to Him. I sit alone at church most of the time. This use to give me great pain. As I prayed about these feelings the Spirit helped me see the end from the beginning. I am never really alone. He is with me every step of my journey. I will have an interview with Him when I pass on. He’ll not be asking me about what others did or didn’t do to or for me. He’ll be asking what I have done for others. This has changed how I feel about going to Church. How can I serve Him? Service is my Faith in action. I strive to serve and help and bless wherever I can. I’m not worried about making or having friends. I want them. I won’t say no to anyone who wants to be friends with me. But this isn’t my focus. It’s made all the difference for me. I can give my loneliness to Jesus Christ and He blesses me with the ability to serve with joy, peace and true charity for my fellowmen.

      I am so sorry you have not made those connections. Finding deep connections is difficult and takes time and patience. I believe if you ask Heavenly Father to put people in your path, and step outside of your comfort zone and put yourself out there it will happen. It may not be a church member that comes into your life, but whomever they are, it will be a person with whom you can connect.

      The white American culture, generally speaking, isn't very social, I'm from Southern Europe, and the northern Europeans are very different than Southern's. I've been living 33 years in Utah and still feel like I'm going to a church I don't belong. I have a strong testimony but don't feel part of the local church. For too many, the church in Utah is more a culture that a living religion, too many members moving to Utah get inactive because they find a different church that where they came from. Still focus on my faith in Jesus Christ my testimony of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon, and the living prophets and general authorities.

      I find it helpful to remember we are all broken. Some aren't good at making others feel loved and included. This is part of the Gospel... learning the Name of Jesus Christ... how to be like Him. Don't be bothered by my weakness, for example. I love other people, but I'm weak and I have bad habits and even when I try, others don't feel like I like them. I know the keys to this mystery lie in knowing my Savior better. I promise to keep trying to learn. Please don't let broken sons of God (like me) deter you in any way. One day I'll figure this out, and I'll come up to you and be the one you need. I'm am trying so hard to change, but it's slow going... and my weakness keeps making this journey longer than I hoped.

    I think Israel was “a chosen people“ merely to show the rest of the nations how God deals with humankind. Much like classroom teachers will call one or two students to stand at the front of the class to demonstrate part of the lesson. But then Israel had a problem with cultural ego not realizing that they’re just the kid at the front of the classroom for the benefit of all others to see. Apparently they didn’t think the rest of the classroom mattered.

    Alma 19:13 says, "For as sure as thou livest, behold, I have seen my Redeemer; and he shall come forth, and be born of a woman, and he shall redeem all mankind who believe on his name". The Plan of Salvation defines the telestial and terrestrial inhabitants as those who did not repent and those who rejected the gospel. Since they did not believe on his name, what does it mean that they are not redeemed?

    Thank you for what you stated shortly after the 47:00 minute mark. I never liked the phrase "everything happens for a reason." I like the example you gave. I always thought this phrase makes it seem like God orchestrating things. I would ask, "Everything happens for a reason....child abuse both physical and sexual? rape? serial killings? I never liked this phrase and what it implies about God. I appreciate you calling it a counterfeit truth because like you said it removes agency and turns us into robots, plus implies God wants these evil things to happen to people.

    This is a false teacher. This is a heretic. If you believe what he is saying, Satan has blinded your eyes. This is Mormon doctrine. They've tried to distance themselves from this heretical name. False teachers, Paul warned us of these in Galatians. He says whether we or an angel from Heaven brings to you another gospel which is not another gospel. Let him be accursed....😢

    Soooo Christians, we are Evangelists afterall - we know Jesus Christ and have received the Spirit of God. We tend to think of conversion as a religious undertaking and not a commitment to the Savior and His teachings. This is a great lesson of how the Spirit and conversion can take MANY FORMS to many different people in many different cultures throughout time.
